How can we help with gluten intolerance?  


Some say you can’t live with it, some say you can’t live without it! Gluten is in A LOT of the foods that we consume on a daily basis. It can have some pretty nasty effects on some people though and others no effects at all.  

Now before you stop reading as you think oh well I am gluten intolerant and this isn’t going to apply to me just keep reading you might be surprised.

Before I get into this any further lets get rid of the boring but potentially most important part. The information I am going to provide you with is all based on scientific evidence, however the team at DSTT do not have the ability to diagnose gluten sensitivity or intolerances. So……….. What is gluten and where is it found?  

Gluten is a protein that is naturally found in grains such as wheat, barley and rye just to name a few. Protein is therefore a nutrient essential to the functioning and maintenance of our bodily functions such as muscles.  

Gluten is the building blocks that hold together our food adding that stretchy look. Think of a PIZZA when tossing the dough it stretches out, without gluten it would rip easily.  


The trouble with gluten……..  

Our bodies can be weird at the best of times CORRECT?? Our body and gluten is definitely one of them times. Individuals all react very differently to gluten, some individuals can eat gluten with not a worry, others on the other hand have their body sense gluten as a toxin. This causes our bodies immune system to overact and attack it.  


Side effects of gluten intolerance or sensitivity……..  

Side effects can range from mild to severe and are listed below.

The benefits of massage and how does it relate to gluten?  

Strange combination right?? Some of the foods we consume can have negative effects on our bodies resulting in massage therapy helping us! Let me explain.  

First of all we need to understand that massage can assist with significant pain reduction. Gluten on the flip side is what causes the pain by inducing an inflammatory response particularly in our joints and abdominal area. Lastly, joint inflammation, arthritic symptoms and headaches are all symptoms of inflammation, which responds really well to massage.  


Let me re-cap what we have just gone over quickly. First of all, please make sure you seek a medical opinion if you feel you have some or all of the symptoms we have listed.
